Florence Sesay, MMW’s Executive Director in Sierra Leone, becomes a King’s College London ‘Changemaker’

Florence Sesay, MMW’s Sierra Leone Executive Director, has become the second ever Changemaker on the Global Institute for Women’s Leadership (GIWL’s) programme at King’s College, London.  The programme aims to empower advocates and activists dedicated to advancing gender equality by providing tailored support for research projects tied to their work or local communities.

This initiative recognises the pivotal role of grassroots movements in fostering genuine societal change and endeavors to bridge the gap between academic research and real-world impact.  Florence has undertaken a month-long research programme at King’s College London on the subject of ‘Barriers and Opportunities in enhancing women’s leadership and political participation from grassroots to national level in Sierra Leone’.

The programme will strengthen GIWL’s networks including global leaders in the fields of academia, politics, business and the third sector and Support to build an Impact Plan to communicate and disseminate research. The partnership will help to raise awareness and help translate research into action.

Florence says, ‘I am very honored to be named the second Changemaker. I enjoyed my time at Kings College London networking with great women, and I look forward to doing my field work on enhancing women’s leadership and political participation at grassroots to national level’
