NEWS RELEASE – Freetown, Sierra Leone, Feb. 16, 2023 –

With the political tensions surrounding the upcoming elections in June 2023, Ndeamoh Mansaray’s participation in an international conference for networking and training for journalists and democracy activists was timely and valuable for her work. The conference, “Building a Democracy Network to Support Civic Education in Electoral Processes in Africa,” was designed to share strategies and best practices to improve election integrity and transparency, to strengthen civil society’s capacity to engage in oversight and advocacy with the elections, and to increase citizen participation in the democratic process.

The training, which took place in Nairobi, Kenya, in January 2023, included participants from 10 African countries scheduled to hold elections in 2022 or 2023. Political tensions are very high in Sierra Leone, and journalists are having to work with caution in covering the elections. MMW has been producing podcasts on civic education and voting to prepare women to participate fully in the elections.

Mansaray was thrilled to participate in the training “to acquire more knowledge on how to reach my podcast audience, particularly with the upcoming elections.” She is a senior journalist with MMW in the Western Rural Area.
