Sexual and Human Rights:”My Body My Right” Campaign

February 2017 – Produced thanks to Mannion Daniels AmplifyChange Opportunity Grant MMW Senior Journalist Alinah Kallon speaks to Florence Sesay, a Human Rights Activist in Makeni, Northern Sierra Leone, about the campaign “My Body My Right” which is mainly focused on discouraging child initiation into the Bondo society. We spoke about some of the disadvantages of this practice and encouraged young women and girls to choose education instead of early initiation. With this program and other of our most recent programs we are testing the Interactive Voice Response (IVR) platform offered by VotoMobile (Ghana) which provides the highly effective “missed call” approach for our distribution. Our listeners can regularly dial an advertised number and before charges begin they are called back with our podcast for free in their language of choice. We have included a short survey at the end to find out our listeners views.
