Mel Manning, Global Director of Media Matters for Women is passionate about ending all violence against women and girls and providing platforms and opportunities for women and girls to amplify their voices. Founding Director of the charity FREEDOM 2, Mel is a qualified primary school teacher with over 24 years experience in Education. After initially working as a class teacher, she then qualified to be a Special Educational Needs Coordinator and more recently a Senior Lecturer in Special Education.
Mel has written a number of successful programmes that support female empowerment, largely through her charity FREEDOM 2. She is a trustee at the Breck Foundation, which is reclaiming the internet for children and young people and member of the Violence against Women and Girls Independent Advisory Group for the London MET police.
Mel holds a degree in Applied Social and Sciences and an MSc in Anthropology Human Rights and Justice. Through her fieldwork for her Masters, Mel spent time working closely with the human trafficking department at Essex police, considering the role of education in child protection. Mel is currently a part time Doctoral student at the Institute for Connected Communities (ICC) at the University of East London, researching girls experiences in the digital space and the development of self.
