Chair of UK Board
Algina Kamara is a community development strategist with a strong commitment to gender equality and social impact. She was recently appointed Chair of the Board at Media Matters for Women (MMW), bringing a depth of experience in public service and grassroots program delivery.
In her current role as Programme Manager for Westminster City Council’s Community Priorities Programme in London, Algina leads a multi-million pound initiative supporting local, community-led projects that tackle inequality and strengthen neighbourhood resilience.
At MMW, Algina provides strategic leadership as the organisation expands its reach and impact across Sierra Leone. She supports key initiatives like Digitruck Salone, which equips women and girls in rural communities with digital and entrepreneurial skills, and Period Power, which uses podcasting and storytelling to improve menstrual health education and awareness.
Algina’s passion for inclusive development and empowering underrepresented voices aligns closely with MMW’s mission. As Chair of UK Board, she is helping to guide the organisation’s next chapter, working to ensure that women and girls across Sierra Leone have access to information, education, and the tools they need to thrive.
