Media Matters for Women Mourns Loss of Bintu Conteh

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Bintu Conteh, Senior Journalist for Media Matters for Women in Sierra Leone.

Bintu was one of the founding journalists for Media Matters for Women and was highly regarded by all who worked with her. Her work touched the lives of thousands of women and girls in the poorest communities who were able to learn about their rights and improve their lives as a result of her tireless community focused journalism.

Sharon Bylenga, Co-founder and Chairperson of Media Matters for Women USA paid tribute to her:

“Bintu was such a wonderful person, full of energy and ideas, and was key to the success of our media project since the day she joined our team in 2014.  Her professionalism was admirable.  We all loved working with her.  She will be greatly missed.”

Part of her legacy to improving the lives and women and girls in Sierra Leone will be her collection of informative podcasts that she created and produced over the years for Media Matters for Women – and will continue to be freely available on SoundCloud for new generations of listeners.

Bintu passed away in February in Guinea after a long illness. In the future, we hope to create a special memorial for our wonderful colleague to remember her by. In the meantime, please join us in acknowledging Bintu and all of the goodness she brought into our lives.
